Coachella Crews Arrest Rape Suspect

COACHELLA – A 22-year-old is in custody, charged with raping a woman in Coachella.

Edgar Cabrera was tracked using what’s called the “Automated License Plate Recognition System.” ALPRs are used by Coachella Police patrol vehicles, and they have the ability to not only capture license plates and compare them to several wanted databases, but they also retain license plates and images in a database for later investigations.

Cabrera was found in the area of Avenue 62 and Tyler Street in Thermal, where he was arrested.

He’s being held in the Indio jail on $250,000 bail.
