Flood Waters Damage Homes, Businesses And Roads

PALM SPRINGS-A California Highway Patrol car was involved in an accident, this morning, on Interstate 10 in Indio. Two officers were injured in the crash that happened during the morning commute.

A roof collapsed in Palm Springs, meantime, at a local business. Witnesses say a problem with the sprinkler system inside caused the Ross Dress For Less’ roof to give way.

Firefighters are helping some homes in the Mecca area as floodwaters are starting to seep inside.

It’s happening on5th Street in Mecca.Crews arefilling and placing sandbags to avoid damage to approximately 7-8 homes on the same street between Lincoln and Cahuilla.

Firefighters are also on the scene at Indio Auto Wrecking and two other businesses assisting with water removal and to divert runoff rainwater from the business.

The first arriving engine reported approximately 5 inches of moving water inside the business.

CAL FIRE fire crews and a dozer are assisting with placing approximately 350 sandbags and diversion of the rainwater. Resources and personnel will be committed a minimum of 3-4 hours. No injuries reported.
