Palm Springs Census Office Cuts Ribbon On New Count

PALM SPRINGS -Palm Springs will celebrate the opening of a U.S. Census Bureau office today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Councilman Chris Mills will cut the ribbon at the 2 p.m. event, which will be held at the new Census Bureau headquarters at 3700 E. Tachevah Drive. The councilman will also urge residents to fill out their census forms, which are due April 1.

Lee Husfeldt, the city’s director of neighborhood and community relations, said that it’s important for residents to fill out the census form.

“In order for Palm Springs to receive its fair share of federal funding, it’s imperative that our households complete the form and mail it back by April 1 because millions of critical dollars for our city are at stake,” Husfeldt said.

Residents will begin receiving the 2010 Census — which aims to count all U.S. residents, including non-citizens — by mid-March. This year’s census form is only about 10 questions and should take about 10 minutes to fill out.
