Indio Shooting Victim Identified By Coroner

INDIO -A man fatally shot in Indio was identified today as a 19-year-old resident of that city.

Hector Alvarez III was pronounced dead around 11 p.m. Friday at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Alvarez was shot about 10 p.m. that night in front of his home 43521 Smurr St., said Ben Guitron of the Indio Police Department.

His Aunt, Mary Ann Aragon, was with Alvarez before being transported to the hospital.

“I had a chance to go running into the backyard and see him laying down and as they took him into the ambulance I spoke to him for a few minutes,” says Aragon. “I told him everything was gonna be ok and I would meet him at the hospital with my sister.”

Witnesses told police they saw a dark blue car leaving the area shortly after the shooting, according to Guitron.

Police have not released a motive.

Family are asking for helping paying for the funeral.

Aragon has set up a funeral fund for Alvarez at the Chase Bank in Indio.

Anyone with more information about the shooting was urged to call police at (760) 391-4057 or Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-7867.
