Senior Affordable Housing Development Has Sinking Feeling

INDIAN WELLS – Later this monththe Indian Wells City Council is expected to decide what to do with a senior affordable housing development.

Some of the buildings at Mountain View Villaswere built on sub-par foundations. The units in questionare now vacated.

The 21 apartmentstaking up 8 buildingsare on the east side of the development.

City officials believe bad foundation work is the cause of the problem. The people living in the units have all been relocated to other apartments on the same property.

Resident Mel Manoff saysit’s not a comforting feelingto see cracks appear;especially in the ceiling.

“It was like a road map. Cracks on each side of the windows. The windows became hard to open. When you’re living there, ceilings cracking a little more and a little more each time. You never know what’s gonna happen.”

The city is considering everything from renovating the damaged unitsto making room for a park.
