Man Accused Of Shooting Relative Arrested After 10-Hour Standoff

RESEDA -A man suspected of shooting a female relativeSunday at a Reseda apartment, exchanging shots with police and holding off a SWAT team for more than nine hours before surrendering is expected to be charged with attempted murder, police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, allegedly shot the woman during a domestic dispute around 4 a.m. at an apartment complex at 18550 Hatteras St., near Reseda Boulevard, said Los Angeles police Officer Dan Brown of the West Valley Station.

“The gunman wounded a family member in some kind of domestic dispute,” said LAPD Officer Jocelyn Baquinat of the West Valley station.

The woman was shot several times and was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, said LAPD Officer Karen Rayner.

Police said the man barricaded himself inside the apartment and exchanged shots with officers, prompting them to evacuate hundreds of nearby apartment dwellers.

The suspect, who will be charged with attempted murder, was taken into custody just before 2 p.m., Rayner said.

It was unclear whether the man surrendered or if any force was used.
