Prosecutors File Suit Against Toyota

SANTA ANA -Orange County prosecutors are expected to file a lawsuit against Toyota on Friday because of continuing problems with their vehicles.

District Attorney Tony Rackauckas says the company continues to endanger the public through sale of defective vehicles and deceptive business practices.

Rackauckas is expected to announce the lawsuit at a press conference Friday morning.

A message left with Toyota was not immediately returned.

Toyota has recalled more than 6 million in the United States because of acceleration problems in multiple models and braking issues in the Prius. Regulators have linked 52 deaths to crashes allegedly caused by accelerator problems.

At least 89 class-action lawsuits have been filed against the Japanese auto giant, which could cost them $3 billion or more.
