Sheriff Office Investigation Launched Into Suspect Escape
INDIO – Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies Thursday launched aformal internal investigation concerning a suspect’s escape from the Indio Sheriff’s station. The Sheriff’s Office says Sgt.. Krause will likely head up the investigation. This comes asa suspect in a home invasion robbery who allegedly led deputies on a chase in a stolen car today managed to escape from custody several hours later in Indio.Hewas later re-arrested, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Jose Angel Ramos and Juan Adrian Lopez, both 19 and from Mecca, were spotted in a red 1996 Honda Prelude that was reported stolen around 2:30 a.m. during a home invasion robbery in the 94500 block of Third Street in Mecca, said Deputy Herlinda Valenzuela of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Two gunmen robbed the residents of personal property and an undisclosedamount of cash before fleeing in the Honda, Valenzuela said. Deputies located the Honda around 5:40 a.m. in La Quinta and gave chase when the driver refused to pull over, according to Valenzuela. The pursuit ended at Avenue 66 and Middleton Street in Thermal, and Ramos and Lopez were taken into custody, according to the deputy.
Ramos fled around 10:30 a.m. from the Indio Sheriff’s Station on Oasis Street at Doctor Carreon Boulevard, He was recaptured around noon at the Arabia Mobile Park at 46200 Calhoun St., just over a mile away from the sheriff’s station, Valenzuela said. During the search for Ramos, Theodore Roosevelt Elementary at 83200 Dr. Carreon Blvd. and Martin Van Buren Elementary at 47733 Van Buren St., were both placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure.
