Students Raise Money For Classmate With Cancer

PALM SPRINGS – Some young valley students are learning a real life lesson in helping others, as one of their classmates fights cancer.

As part of a service learning project, four 5th graders from Katherine Finchy Elementary school known as the “Happy Helpers” organized a carnival held on Saturday. It was all to help out Zack Williams, one of their classmates who was diagnosed with leukemia last year. About 500 people came out to support Zack. All of the proceeds will help with his medical bills.

“I’m thankful to all of the people who set this up,” says Zack Williams.

“Thank you to the community and all of the kids at the school for helping and for keeping us in your prayers, it means a lot to the family and especially Zack,” says Andrea Williams, Zack’s mom.

Zack’s cancer is in remission, he has two years left of chemotherapy. If you’d like to help out with his medical costs, the family has set up an account at Bank of America, called the “Zackery R. Williams Support Fund”.

You can mail checks to 8620 Holly Lane, Riverside, CA 92504.
