Largest Stimulus Project Breaks Ground in California

Governor Schwarzenegger helped break ground on the nation’s largest economic stimulus project right here in California.

It’s in Red Bluffs, about 130 miles north of Sacramento.

The project is supposed to help endangered salmon reach their spawning grounds…

“This is an example of how we can bring everyone together,” said the governor. “I always said even when I ran for governor back in 2003, I said that we will fight to make sure that we protect the environment and also protect the economy at the same time and that’s exactly what this project is all about.”

Officials say the cost of the project is estimated at $230 million with nearly half of that coming from federal stimulus funds.

It’s expected to be finished in 2012.
