Child Found Inside SUV After Police Chase In La Quinta

Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies say Louis Ross and Elsie Gayton, both from Palm Desert reportedly stole $1,200 worth of items from the Kohl’s Department Store in La Quinta, Tuesday afternoon.

Around 3:30pm, deputies chased a black Ford Expedition they say may have been involved in the case all the way from the Kohl’s on Highway 111 in La Quinta to the parking lot at the new Eisenhower Health Center on Washington Street. Both people inside ran off. Police found an abandoned 3 year-old inside.

The child was turned over to Riverside County Child Protective Services.

Ross and Gayton were both arrested a few minutes later, and will be charged with commercial burglary and child endangerment.
