Pregnant Woman Shot In Apparent Gang-Related Drive-By

A pregnant woman and her fetus were fatally wounded today in an apparent gang-related drive-by shooting in the South Robertson area of West Los Angeles, police said.

The shooting occurred about 9:15 a.m. in the 1900 block of Corning Street, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Bruce Borihanh of the Media Relations office.

The woman and her fetus died at a hospital, police said. The woman’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

ABC7 reported from the scene that the woman was 26 years old.

LAPD Capt. Ruben De La Torre said the woman was about 20 weeks pregnant.

“The vehicle drove up. Our victim was seated in a vehicle. Shots rang out,” LAPD Capt. Evangelyn Nathan said. “We’re reaching out to the public for information. … We’re looking for individuals who have information concerning the shooting, the suspects, vehicles; anything that you can tell us at all.”

Channel 7 reported that a witness saw a man approach the victim, fire a shot, drop something — possibly the weapon — then pick it up, get back in the other vehicle and drive off.
