Cathedral City Councilman Makes A Pitch For Baseball

The backlash over Arizona’s new immigration law could cost that state an estimated 90 million dollars in tourism over the next 5 years.

A lot of tourists go to Arizona to see spring training baseball, but could some of those fans be heading our way?

That’s what Cathedral City Councilman Greg Pettis would like to see. He believes the 15 major league clubs that train in Arizona need to make a statement against the state’s recently passed immigration law.

One way; move their spring training operations temporarily or permanently to the Coachella Valley.

“I think certainly the stadium in Palm Springs is one location,” he said. “I think the facilities at COD are another one that could immediately handle something like this.

“I think if we’re creative we could find areas in Indio and Coachella that could accommodate,” said Pettis.

Pettis has just started pitching his idea to other leaders in the valley. He’s also working with Coachella Valley Economic Partnership officials to see how the area could make itself attractive to Major League Baseball.
