Police Say Suspect In Stabbing Acted In Self-Defense

Palm Desert police say the suspect involved in a double stabbing early Monday morning probably will not face criminal charges.

Twenty-seven-year-old Dayne Michael Guzman of Palm Desert turned himself in on Monday. Investigators say Guzman claims he acted in self-defense when he stabbed two men on the 74-500 block of Leslie Avenue.

Police say Guzman’s statements, verified by witnesses and victims’ statements, showed Guzman had been followed by the two victims for more than a block as he tried to avoid a confrontation that had been brewing at someone’s house.

Gary Barber and Jason Royea were both stabbed in the confrontation that ultimately happened.
