Smash And Grabs On The Rise At A Palm Springs Park

Demuth Park-goers near Gene Autry Trail and Mesquite say the problem is only getting worse.

In the past week the thieves have hit four times. They are targeting parents while they watch their kids play baseball.

Police say they case out the area, figuring out which people are storing their valuables inside their trunk. Then, they bash the window in, pop the trunk and run off with hundred of dollars worth of stolen goods.

Marin Young has seen it before. “It is getting progressively worse,” she said. “It’s been happening for years, getting worse and started before the baseball season started.”

The park is home to the Palm Springs Youth League. League organizers say they are starting to do volunteer patrols through the parking lot.

Richard Jenkins, the President of the leagues says more lights and more police patrols will help.

Police aren’t releasing an information about possible suspects. They encourage park goers to take all valuables with you and leave nothing of value in your car.
