Pedestrian Dies In Late-Night Hit-And-Run

A 68-year-old man died early today from injuries he suffered when he was struck by a Camaro-like vehicle in a hit-and-run in Coachella.

Ronald Viduya of Coachella was declared dead at 12:21 a.m. at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Viduya was struck just before 10 p.m. Monday as he was crossing Avenue 51 at Suncrest Street in Coachella, said sheriff’s Lt. Frank Taylor.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop. Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark-colored sedan or a red Chevrolet Camaro-type vehicle, Taylor said.

The vehicle will most likely have major front-end damage, including a broken windshield, according to Taylor.

Anyone with more information was asked to call Sgt. Mike Tapp at (760) 863-8990.
