Police Catch Man Wanted For Beating Homeless Man Over $2

A 57-year-old man accused of beating a homeless man during a robbery that netted $2 was arrested Monday night, police reported.

Guillermo Garcia Gonzalez is suspected in the May 2 attack behind the Kragen Auto Parts store at 13310 Palm Drive, said Sgt. Daniel Bressler of the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.

Gonzalez allegedly struck the victim in the face and head with a club of some sort and then took the man’s wallet, which contained $2, Bressler said.

Detectives obtained enough information during the investigation to identify Gonzalez as a suspect, according to Bressler.

Police say Monday night they got a call telling them where they could find Gonzalez.

Banning Police helped locate him at the Victory Outreach Center where he was arrested, and booked in the Riverside County Jail.

Gonzalez was also wanted on a felony narcotics warrant.
