Memorial Day Traffic Started First Thing Friday

Millions of Southern Californians will be on the roads for the long Memorial Day weekend, and gasoline prices have dipped a few cents to make the travel a little easier on your wallet.

The L-A County average for a gallon of regular stands at 3-dollars-and-3-cents … down about 7-cents over the past week. While that may not sound like much … it’s biggest drop in advance of Memorial Day in years.

In the Riverside and San Bernardino County areas, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.00, according to AAA. A year ago, it was $2.66 per gallon.

But remember 2008? That year, travelers were shelling out $4.61 for a gallon of unleaded.

It’s not just gas drivers need to be concerned about.

Police, CHP, and Sheriff’s deputies will be out on patrol looking for drivers under the influence. Last year in the Palm Springs-Indio area, 19 drivers were arrested for DUI. Statewide, 1,465 people were arrested.

Authorities are hoping drivers heed their warnings and advice, so they can have another year when they reported no deaths over the Memorial Day Weekend.
