Flowers Dropped From B-25 Bomber In Honor Of Veterans

On its third flyby the 1944 Mitchell B-25 bomber dropped 3,000 carnations above the Palm Springs Air Museum. In World War II the vintage warbird was used for dropping bombs, but on this Memorial Day its dropping flowers. The two-thousand white ones are in honor of those killed in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. The red carnations are in honor of those who died in more recent conflicts including Persian Gulf, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is the 12th year the Palm Springs Air Museum had honored those lost with a flower drop. Jeff Luinstra was at the event with his family, he says, “It’s a great time for my family to see the history, and transcend what the older generation did and take that forward.”

Those attending the event also got a chance to check out the other warbirds up close.
