Car Runs Into Palm Desert Optometry Shop

A 78-year-old woman rammed her Mercedes-Benz into an optometry business today in Palm Desert when her slipper got caught on the accelerator, a sheriff’s deputy said.

The accident was reported at 8:40 a.m. at Desert Eyeworks at 73111 Country Club Drive, near Monterey Avenue, said Deputy Melissa Nieburger of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Neither the driver nor a woman working at the office were hurt, Nieburger said.

A building inspector was called to check out the structure, according to the deputy.
