Election Clock Ticks Down To Tuesday

Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner are both scheduled to campaign in Southern California today, a day before Republican voters decide which one of them will be the party’s gubernatorial nominee.

Whitman, a former chief executive officer of eBay, is set to speak at 11:45 a.m. at her Woodland Hills headquarters, 20812 Ventura Blvd., and at 2:30 p.m. at her Costa Mesa headquarters, 150 Paularino Ave.

Whitman will discuss her plans for “A New California,” according to her campaign’s press secretary, Sarah Pompei. Whitman has focused on three issues — creating jobs, cutting government spending and improving education.

Poizner, the state’s insurance commissioner, will speak at a noon rally at Pasadena’s Green Hotel, discussing his support for Proposition 13, the landmark 1978 property tax limitation measure, and his plans to end illegal immigration and to revitalize the California economy through tax cuts for every business and individual in the state, according to Bettina Inclan, his campaign’s press secretary.

The rally will be hosted by the Pasadena Patriots group, a local branch of the national Tea Party movement.
