Riverside County Elections Monitored By Feds

The Justice Department says Riverside County will be among three jurisdictions to be monitored for language assistance in Tuesday’s election.

Justice Department officials said Monday they will oversee polling places in Riverside, Middlesex County in New Jersey and Charles Mix and Shannon counties in South Dakota.

The monitoring falls under the Voter Rights Act, which prohibits discriminatory election practices based on race, color or membership in a minority language group.

Earlier this year, Riverside County and the Justice Department settled a lawsuit on the issue.

Voters in Riverside and Middlesex counties will be given language assistance in Spanish. Voters in Shannon County will be given assistance in Lakota, a Native American language.
