Amber Alert Cancelled; Missing Teen May Be In Southern California

An Amber Alert was issued today for a 16-year-old girl from Kansas, who was originally believed to be in Newport Beach or Huntington Beach with her stepfather, who is suspected of molesting her, authorities said.

The alert was canceled just before 2 p.m. when the Ford Expedition they were believed to be traveling in was found in San Diego, but the girl and her stepfather were still missing, according to Orange County sheriff’s Sgt. Joe McClintock.

Orange County sheriff’s deputies received a request for help from police in Overland Park, Kan., who were tipped that the teen was believed to be in the beach cities with stepfather Patrick Porter, McClintock said.

“We’re not sure at this time, but it’s possible she could be in danger,” McClintock said.

The girl was reported missing last Thursday. Investigators suspect Porter fled Kansas to avoid prosecution.

Porter is white, in his late 30s or early 40s, about 5-foot-5 and 120 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes, according to missingkids.com. The teen has a scar on her abdomen, according to the website.
