Head-On Collision Injures Four In Mecca

Four people were seriously injured this afternoon in a head-on crash near Mecca, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 3:25 p.m. on Grapefruit Boulevard at 64th Avenue, said CHP Officer Ramon Perez.

A 28-year-old Indio woman was driving a 1991 Honda sedan north on Grapefruit Boulevard when she crossed into opposing lanes and slammed into a 2005 Kia minivan, Perez said.

The van’s driver, a 61-year-old North Shore man, and his two passengers suffered major injuries, according to Perez.

The driver of the Honda also suffered moderate to major injuries, he said.

All four were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

The roadway was briefly shut down while the CHP landed a medical helicopter, but no one was airlifted, Perez said.
