Brush Fire Erupts In Whitewater Canyon Near Interstate 10

A fast-moving fire challenged firefighters Thursday night along Interstate 10 and Whitewater Canyon. But, 90 minutes after the fire broke out, the flames were contained.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fire broke out around 4pm along power lines in the afternoon near Interstate 10

Cal Fire says 52 acres burned, but there were no injuries or structure damage.

More than 200 firefighters blocked off Highway 62 at Dillon Road to access the fire, and begin the big fight. Three helicopters and 2 air tankers were been brought in. Fixed-wing aircraft were on standby.

Fire crews stopped the fire from marching forward. The flames were fully contained at around 7:45 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

The fire comes as a Red Flag Warning was issued by the National Weather Service for the high desert area.
