CHP Officer Killed In San Bernardino County Pursuit

A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer has been killed during a high-speed pursuit of suspects in San Bernardino County.

The CHP says seven-year veteran Tom Coleman was pronounced dead at the Redlands intersection where he smashed into a tractor-trailer around 6:30 a.m. Friday.

CHP spokesman Daniel Hesser says the four suspects being pursued for vehicle code violations have been arrested on undisclosed charges. He says the chase reached speeds of 100 mph.

Coleman, whose age has not been released, was married with two children.

This is the second CHP motorcycle officer involved in a serious crash this week. An officer remains in critical condition Friday after being hit by a motorist Wednesday on a freeway shoulder in Los Angeles.
