Explosion Rocks L.A. Recycling Plant Sparking Raging Fire

Fire officials say a large fire that tore through a South Los Angeles recycling plant and injured a civilian has been extinguished.

City fire spokesman Cecil Manresa says the fire was knocked down shortly before 1:30 p.m. Friday after 160 firefighters battled the blaze.

The injured person was taken to a hospital, but the extent of his injuries was unknown.

An explosion set off the fire around 11 a.m. at the sprawling industrial complex, which houses numerous open containers of metals, including titanium. Manresa says firefighters used foam, as well as water, to put out the flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
