A Palm Springs man suffered major injuries today when his sports utility vehicle overturned on westbound Interstate 10 near Chiriaco Summit.

The crash was reported at 10:38 a.m. on the interstate east of Hayfield Road, said California Highway Patrol Officer Ramon Perez.

The 56-year-old driver of the 2007 Ford SUV lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over several times, Perez said.

He was taken by ground ambulance to Chiriaco Summit, then airlifted to a hospital, according to the officer.
