West Nile Surfaces In Mecca
Traps set up in the Salton Sea region and Mecca have revealed the movement of West Nile into the Coachella Valley.
The Coachella Valley Mosquito Vector Control, which is in charge of tracking the movement of mosquito-bourne illnesses, has tracked mosquitoes caught in traps.
As News Channel 3 reported last month, West Nile was first spotted 10 weeks early along the shores of the Salton Sea.
Traps set on June 7th now show West Nile virus has moved into the heart of Mecca.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, West Nile can produce a serious illness.
“The severe symptoms can include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, coma, tremors, convulsions, muscle weakness, vision loss, numbness and paralysis. These symptoms may last several weeks, and neurological effects may be permanent,” said the CDC website.
