Palm Springs Considers Third Medical Marijuana Dispensary
The Palm Springs City Council is expected tonight to approve an ordinance that would provide for a third medical marijuana dispensary in the city.
The council also will consider nine applicants who want to start selling the normally illegal weed. The hearing is set for 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way.
According to city staffers, Organic Solutions of the Desert, 560 Williams Road, and Herbal Solutions, 4765 Ramon Road, meet the city’s requirements to be awarded a permit.
Three of the applicants — Palm Springs Compassionate Care, Greenway Nature Care Center and Farmacy Collective — nearly qualified, but did not meet zoning restrictions, the report states.
CAPS at 4050 Airport Center Drive and Desert Valley Patients Collective at 905 Crossley Road do not qualify because they are within retail centers, according to the report.
A third city-sanctioned dispensary would help provide a sufficient number of “reliable and appropriately regulated medical cannabis cooperatives,” according to a city report.
In March 2009, the council voted to allow two collectives, or cooperatives, in compliance with state law to operate within the city’s three industrial zones.
Out of 11 applicants, the council awarded the permits to Desert Organic Solutions, 19486 Newhall St., and CannaHelp, 505 Industrial Place. Both are open for business.
