McCallum Theatre Begins Makeover
The McCallum Theatre will be undergoing some renovation work before its fall season begins.
The $1.4 million make-over is the first major renovation for the McCallum since it was built in 1988.
The entire inside of the theatre and lobby are getting new paint jobs, seats are being upgraded, carpeting is being replaced, and a new air conditioning system will be installed.
And too boot, the project is putting local people to work.
“With a project of this size we really wanted to help the local economy as much as we could, especially in these economic times, so as much as we could we hired local contractors,” said Mitch Gershenfeld, McCallum Theatre Director of Presentations.
Charles Soffel, the owner of Elite Painting in Yucca Valley is thrilled to have been awarded the painting contract.
“I let the guys know that they’d actually get to work local here because we’ve been having to travel to do a lot our work because there isn’t much in the valley you know; they’re all excited,” said Soffel.
Elite Painting is one of two local prime contractors working on the project. The McCallum opens its fall season October 22nd when Randy Travis takes the stage.
