Overturned Big Rig Spills Produce, Shutting Down Highway 111 For 12 Hours
Part of Highway 111 was closed Thursday morning, south of Mecca after a big rig overturned around midnight spilling produce on the road. All lanes have since re-opened.
This happened just north of Mecca Avenue.
Both sides of the highway were closed for clean-up, but the southbound lanes re-opened in time for the morning commute.
The California Highway Patrol had expected the northbound lanes of Highway 111 to re-open around 11am, but didn’t feel confident about the cleanup until noon.
No one was hurt in the accident, and the cause is still under investigation.
