Police See More People Injured On The Roads Over Fourth Of July

The number of people hurt in traffic accidents during the California Highway Patrol’s Independence Day holiday enforcement campaign in the Coachella Valley increased compared to last year, the CHP reported today.

From 6 p.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Monday, six people were injured in wrecks, compared to no one in 2009, said CHP Officer John Quintero.

CHP officers assigned to the Indio office arrested 14 people on suspicion of driving under the influence over the long weekend, compared to 13 people in 2009.

No one was killed on local roads patrolled by the CHP this year or last, Quintero said.

The number of accidents, however, increased. There were 13 crashes this year, compared to one in 2009, according to the officer.
