City Of Palm Springs Receives HUD Grant Money

Great news for local non-profit organizations that have seen donations fall off due to the tough economy. The city of Palm Springs is once again in position to help out.

The city was recently granted almost $546,000 through a U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant.

The Mizell Senior Center for one has been able to take advantage of previous HUD grant money for capital improvements at its facility. While any non-profit in the valley that improves the quality of life for low to moderate income citizens can apply to the city for a portion of the grant money, there is one big stipulation. “We look for how Palm Springs is impacted.” Said Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet. “So of course in the valley you’ve got a lot of organizations that serve a lot of different people throughout the valley, but one of the qualifiers is how is this gonna impact residents in Palm Springs.”

A citizens advisory committee looks over the applications before making recommendations to the city council. The money will be disbursed next spring.
