Employee Shot During Armed Robbery In Twentynine Palms

Two co-workers were recovering in local a hospital Monday following an afternoon shooting in Twentynine Palms.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to an assault and robbery at 3:03 p.m. on the 73900 block of Twentynine Palms Highway.

The robber is still at large.

An armed man entered the Dell Gagnon Real Estate office just before 3 p.m., investigators said.

“We’re not exactly sure yet what if anything he did in fact steal,” said Cpl. Rick Millard, with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

But authorities said the shooting did start off as a robbery.

“It was a money thing,” said an employee who visited the office earlier in the day. “I was gonna come back, but I decided to go with my daughter to WalMart, and I thank God that I didn’t come.”

Authorities said they are still determining how the altercation started.

But investigators said the robber beat a male employee with his gun, which was described as a silver revolver with a brown grip.

The robber then shot the other worker.

Both were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center where they are currently receiving treatment.

Their conditions are not known.

The suspect’s identity is also unknown.

Two customers were inside the business at the time of the assault and one of which called 911, according to the sheriff’s department.

Neither customer was injured.

Authorities are also reviewing surveillance tape from nearby businesses that possibly caught the incident on camera.

“For this to happen, its crazy,” said Escandon. “They need to get that man.”

The suspect is described as an African American male in his late 20s to early 30s.

He is 6 feet tall and weights around 250 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a dark gray long-sleeve thermal shirt and black pants.

The man is considered armed and dangerous.

Investigators said they are asking anyone who may know who he is to contact them at 760-365-2364 or at 1-800-78CRIME.
