Truck Hits Power Pole Knocking Out Power

A big rig crashed today into a utility pole, bringing down power lines that briefly trapped the driver in his cab and knocked out power to an area of Desert Hot Springs, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 9:06 a.m. at Dillon Road and Desert Crest Avenue, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatcher.

Witnesses reported the wires were draped over the cab, touching the ground and sparking.

The driver, who was unharmed, stayed in the cab while a utility crew de- energized the power lines.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.

Southern California Edison crews were on the scene repairing the downed pole, and trying to restore power to the area affected. Power was out at the intersections of Palm and Dillon and Mountain View and Dillon. Electricity was restored about 15 minutes later.
