Eighth Racing Spectator Dies At Palm Springs Hospital

Authorities have released the name of the last of eight spectators killed when a racing vehicle rolled into a crowd of spectators lining an off-road course in California’s Mojave Desert during the weekend.

The Riverside County coroner’s office said Monday that 34-year-old Michael James Dickinson of Spring Valley died late Saturday at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

The tragedy struck Saturday evening on a 50-mile off-road course in a remote area near Lucerne Valley in the desert northeast of Los Angeles.

A competing pickup truck went over a jump, went out of control and rolled into the crowd. Witnesses say spectators were so close to the course they could almost touch the vehicles speeding by.
