Police Search For Passenger After High Speed Chase

A man suspected in a vehicle pursuit in Desert Hot Springs was behind bars today, while a parolee who also was in the car remained at-large, police reported.

The chase began about 7:54 p.m. Saturday in the area of Hacienda Avenue and Calle Las Tiendas when an officer tried to pull over a vehicle with a broken headlight, said Sgt. Kenneth Peary of the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle took off and the officer gave chase, Peary said.

The pursuit ended when two occupants in the vehicle fled on foot, but one of the men, 23-year-old Jose Pardo was taken into custody, he said.

The driver, Martin Guerrero, 22, evaded officers and remains at-large, according to the sergeant.

Two handguns — reported stolen from San Bernardino and Palm Springs — were found in the vehicle, Peary said.

Anyone with information about Guerrero’s whereabouts was asked to call police at (760) 329-2904, ext. 2.
