Deputy Unharmed After Being Targeted In Mecca Shooting

Police in Mecca Monday were searching for the suspects wanted in a shooting involving a sheriff’s deputy.

Residents at the Mecca II apartment complex reported shots fired at around 9:15 p.m.

A Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy responded in less than five minutes where he found that a street light had been grazed by a bullet.

Moments later a single bullet shot through the officer’s car window and shattered the glass.

The deputy was uninjured and took cover while he waited for back-up to arrive.

The suspects were described as six young Hispanic men between the ages of 18 and 22.

They were last seen in the area of Avenue 66 and Lincoln Street in Mecca.

If you have any information, call the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
