Agua Caliente Indian Tribe Presenting Sponsor of Desert AIDS Walk

The Agua Caliente Indian tribe is sponsoring the annual Desert AIDS Walk which benefits the Desert AIDS Project.

Tribal chairman Richard Milanovich presented a $25,000 check to D.A.P. on Tuesday. The tribe has given $280,000 to the organization since 1998.

Milanovich said the tribe respects the work D.A.P. does for the community. “We know many of our closest friends who have contracted AIDS. So, we’re doing what we can to help its members and the community overall,” he said.

The Walk will be held October 23 from Ruth Hardy Park. Those who prefer a faster race may participate in the 5K version on the same day

D.A.P. hopes to raise more than $300,000 this year. National drug store chain Walgreen’s will be soliciting donations in 18 of its stores throughout the Coachella Valley and the high desert until the end of September. Customers may donate $1, $5 or $20.
