Driver Idenitified After Crashing Into Ditch Off Interstate 10

A pickup truck driver died Tuesday when he veered off westbound Interstate 10 and crashed into a ditch, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash just west of Sunset Avenue was reported at 1:40 p.m., the CHP reported.

The pickup, which had a trailer attached, went off the freeway for unknown reasons and came to rest in a ditch, according to the CHP.

Firefighters were sent to free the lone driver, but he was declared dead just before 2:30 p.m., according to Cheri Patterson of the Riverside County Fire Department.

The right-most lane was closed to accommodate the investigation.

Russell C. Druett, 63, of Banning was killed in the accident.
