DSUSD Workers Agree To Pay Cuts, Fewer Layoffs

With less than a week until the beginning of the new school year, nearly 115 jobs in the Desert Sands Unified School District are safe after an employees? union voted to approve a deal to cut their own pay.

The California School Employees Association vote was 230-to-152.

The tentative agreement calls for gardeners, secretaries and cafeteria workers to take a three-and-a-half percent salary cut.

Teachers are not affected.

The voluntary pay cuts mean only 11 full-time employees will be laid off.
