Palm Springs Police Hold Blood Drive To Help Wounded Officer

Palm Springs police will hold a blood drive Thursday for a Northern California police officer.

The drive is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Palm Springs Police Department, in the training center parking lot, Palm Springs police Officer Rhonda Long said.

Fremont police Officer Todd Young was shot several times Friday while trying to take a suspect into custody in Oakland, and is in need of blood donations, according to Long, who said all blood types are welcome.

The Community Blood Bank has arranged to accept donations on the officer’s behalf and will work with a Northern California company to get the blood to him, Long said.

Residents who plan to donate blood are asked to indicate the donation is intended for Young.

The suspect involved in the shooting was finally apprehended near the U.S./Mexico border.
