Domestic Dispute Call Uncovers Hazardous Materials

Two people were behind bars today on suspicion of domestic violence at a Palm Desert home where deputies found an assault weapon and materials used to make methamphetamine.

A report of shots fired was made at 5:43 p.m. Monday in the 43000 block of Illinois Avenue, according to Sgt. Larry Sherman of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Arriving deputies found a man and a woman arguing, the assault weapon and the materials, Sherman said.

Riverside County firefighters responded and removed the chemicals, which were part of a meth lab, according to sheriff’s Deputy Herlinda Valenzuela.

Laura Miranda, 19, of Palm Desert, was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and Gustavo Zazueta, 30, of Palm Desert, was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of an assault weapon and possession of large-capacity magazines.
