More Rain In Wednesday’s Forecast

More showers and thunderstorms are forecast in the Coachella Valley today.

The slow-moving, cut-off low-pressure system, which produced widely varying rainfall totals Monday, should move out of the region overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

The Palm Springs International Airport recorded 0.39 of an inch of rain Tuesday, surpassing the previous record of 0.11 of an inch set in 1963, according to the NWS.

Farther east, about a half-inch of rain fell in Thermal Tuesday.

Downpours associated with thunderstorms produced some roadway flooding around the Coachella Valley.

In Cathedral City, Varner Road remained closed from Mountain View to Ramon roads because of mud from a slide, city spokeswoman Lynn Mallotto said.

Cathedral Canyon Drive at the Whitewater Wash and the southbound lanes of Date Palm Drive open today, Mallotto said.

Palm Springs had no road closings this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
