Children’s Museum Of The Desert Celebrates Halloween
There was tricks and treats. But that’s not all. There was games, crafts and a costume contest.
The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert gave parents and children a little bit of everything as halloween nears.
Javier Martinez Jr. and his son loved it.
“It’s during the day so you’re not having to worry where your kids are at. You can let them roam around. It’s pretty cool,” said Martinez Jr.
Halloween can be a scary time for parents especially if their children are out trick-or-treating. Karissa Stout said she’s worries about drivers in her Desert Hot Springs neighborhood.
“The fact that people drive like crazy and even just taking my kids for a walk after I get off work people are flying down the roads at like 60 miles an hour I can’t even imagine what it’s going to be like halloween night,” said Stout, mother of two.
Organizers said events like these are great because they give children a halloween experience parents can feel safe about.
“People are more and more going to malls and stores to trick-or-treat rather than house,” said Kim Hatten, an organizer for the museum. “Unless they go in their own neighborhood and they’re familiar with it, it’s a scary world out there and this is a very safe world.”
Events like these are becoming more popular every year and there are sure to be more as October 31st nears. But will they ever replace traditional trick-or-treating?
“Probably more fun for the older kids to go door-to-door but for me I like to play it safe so I hope it will,” said Stout.
“It is safe. it’s a safe place and it’s a lot of fun. but we still like trick or treating too,” said Elizabeth Hagger, a mother from Desert Hot Springs.
It’s not a question for Martinez Jr. and his son, Javier Martinez III.
“No I don’t think it will take the place of trick or treating,” said Martinez Jr. “Neither do I, because trick or treating has mostly more sweets than this thing,” said Martinez III.
But it’s no trick, events like these are treats for parents.
