Fire Burns Home in Palm Desert

A palm desert family is out of their home after it was badly damaged in a fire.

It broke out just before 5 p.m. Saturday on the 43,300 block of Alabama street. It was contained in about half an hour.

The fire started in the garage, sending flames shooting through the roof. Black smoke could be seen for miles across the valley.

More than 2 dozen firefighters responded to the scene.

7 people – 2 adults and 5 children — lived in the home.

Fire crews were also able to rescue the family dog, who was stuck inside. The dog is expected to be okay. He was taken to a vet for a check-up.

2 firefighters suffered minor injuries. They were treated at a local hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
