State Grant Helps Cathedral City Develop New Park

Cathedral City will soon boast a 5-acre neighborhood park, thanks to a $4.9 million state grant, a city official announced today.

The park, paid for via the state Parks Department, will be at Ocotillo and Moreno roads in Whitewater, Allen Howe of the city said.

Plans for the park include a baseball field, two children’s play areas, a picnic area with shade, two basketball courts, a skate area, restrooms and a concession area.

“This is a great day for all of Cathedral City, especially the children,” Mayor Kathleen DeRosa.

The park’s plan was created from suggestions made by residents, who will continue to be part of the planning process, Howe said. Community’s involvement was one of the reasons the state awarded the grant to Cathedral City, out of 475 other applicants, according to the city.
