Temporary Replacement Named To Lead Riverside County Elections Office

Riverside County Executive Officer Bill Luna on Tuesday designated Chief Deputy Registrar of Voters Rebecca Spencer as acting Registrar of Voters to conduct day-to-day operations in the office in Riverside.

She will also carry the responsibility of certifying the results of the Nov. 2 general election.

Under state law, an elections official must be designated to certify the results, a task normally conducted in Riverside County by the registrar of voters.

Barbara Dunmore was dismissed from the registrar’s position last week. Spencer assumes the duties of acting registrar immediately.

The county Executive Office will continue to oversee the Registrar’s Office while Spencer conducts daily operations.

Spencer began working in the Registrar’s Office in 2002 as an elections technician and has been chief deputy registrar since 2005. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree, both in business administration, from the University of California, Riverside.

Riverside County will proceed with recruitment efforts for the registrar’s position but no timetable has been established yet to hire a replacement
