Fumes At Oasis Date Gardens Send Eight To Hospital

Eight people were transported to a local hospital after they were sicked by breathing fumes at the Oasis Date Gardens in Thermal, according to the Riverside Fire Department.

Hazardous materials crews were on the scene at 59111 Grapefruit Blvd. at 9 a.m. after workers complained of nausea. The crews were trying to located where odor was coming from and determine exactly what it was.

Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies were blocking off roads for the investigation.

The workers who were transported complained of feeling sick or nauseated and should be okay.

Haz Mat crews reported air quality inside the buildings at the gardens were normal, and the fumes had dissipated.

Despite other media reports, authorities were not warning residents to keep their windows closed as a safety precaution. They tell News Channel 3 the fumes appeared to be localized to the date gardens and were not widespread.
